The Super Awesome Advisors!
So, you’ve learned a little about the Orientation Core Staff, but who are these advisors that we keep mentioning? The advisors are amazing people that guide us through the process of planning Orientation. They give us invaluable advice that allows us to make Orientation the absolute best! Each year they challenge the Core Staff to evolve Orientation into something new and even greater!
Let’s meet the Orientation Advisors, shall we?
Sharon Duffy has served as the Associate Dean of Students at Emerson College since 2001 and is the lead advisor to the orientation program – that means she is responsible for actualizing the program for the College and supervising the core staff, advisors and OLs. Orientation planning happens all year round, but Sharon also serves as the advisor to SGA, the Freshman Class Council, ERA Awards and supervises all functional areas of Student Life. Be warned, Sharon is now using Pinterest and Google Docs like it is her job.
Steven Martin is the Assistant Director for Off Campus Student Services and has been at Emerson College since 2009. Off Campus Student Services helps to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and resources to successfully secure off campus housing. OCSS offers the MBTA Semester T Pass Program, roommate matching workshops, apartment listings, locker rentals, roommate mediation, and many others programs and services. Drop by and see them! In addition to serving as an advisor for Orientation, Steven also advises the Class of 2014,and the Class of 2015.
Aliya Ewing is the Senior Administrative Associate to the Dean of Students , giving admin. support to Dean Ludman as he oversees eight departments (Student Life, Housing and Residence Life, Career Services, Center for Health and Wellness, Emerson Counseling and Psychological Services (ECAPS) International Student Affairs, Disability Services, and Athletics). She also serves as an honorary advisor to the Orientation Core Staff. When not working at Emerson she’s writing, hanging out with her son, and/or working on a local organic veggie CSA farm.
Josh Hamlin is the Assistant Director of the Campus Center, and has been at Emerson since 2007. The Campus Center provides a number of spaces and services to students, whether it be meeting or event space, social spaces, or support for many of the events and programs that students plan or participate in; so come check out a show, hang out, or submit your artwork for the campus to see.
Tikesha R. Morgan
Tikesha R. Morgan has been at Emerson since 2006, and working in the field of Higher Education for twelve years. She has major passion for diversity issues, and enjoys exploring the topic with Emerson students. An original New Yorker, but has resided in the Boston area for ten years. On a day off you will find her shopping, netflixing and hanging out at her local comic book store.
Jason Meier started as Director of Student Activities at Emerson College in 2011. He serves as a the primary advisor to Emerson Mane Events, the college’s student-led programming board, Greek Life and Senior Class Council. You’ll also see Jason working to help advise Family Weekend, the ERA Awards and the Emersonian Yearbook. When he’s not working with amazing students, you’ll find him tweeting away, watching the honey badger video (again) and looking for the next big new thing.
Virga Mohsini has been working with international students at Emerson since 1994 and just loves this population! Before that she worked in higher ed in Montreal and New York, and as a clinical social worker in MA and Lithuania. She went to graduate school in Montreal, and has two master’s degrees from McGill University there. Her family comes from Lithuania and they adopted two infants from there – who are now in college this summer at Emerson! Her favorite hobby is travel to all kinds of new corners of the globe.
Yelena is the Coordinator of International Student Affairs. International Student Affairs plans a variety of fun activities for International students that include movie nights, coffee hours, performance events, and more. International Student Affairs provides informational workshops to ensure that international students make the most of their Emerson experience. She’s excited to meet and work with new students.
Brittany Bailey is the Staff Assistant to the Student Life Office. She started working at Emerson College in 2012. A burst of positive energy she is willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoys meeting new people and serves as one of the advisors for Orientation. She loves candy, flips flops, dance parties and hanging out with her amazing husband and beautiful son.
